Is the redaction automatic or do I review first?

The tool detects and flags PII automatically, but you review and confirm what gets redacted before it's applied. This prevents accidental removal of content that matches a pattern but isn't actually sensitive.

Is auto-redaction as secure as manual redaction?

Yes. Both methods use the same rasterization technique — the text is permanently destroyed, not covered with a box. Auto-redaction simply automates the detection step.

Does the PII detection happen on a server?

No. The pattern matching runs entirely in your browser using local JavaScript. Your document — including all the PII it contains — never leaves your device.

Can it detect PII in scanned documents?

Auto-redaction works on text-based PDFs where the text is selectable. For scanned documents, run them through PDF OCR first to create a text layer, then use auto-redact on the searchable PDF.
